STEUBENVILLE, OH –The Jefferson County Democratic Party has issued the following statement from Chairman Frankie DiCarlantonio in response to the ruling issued today from the United States Supreme Court in the case of Janus v. AFSCME:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision makes it easier for anti-worker extremists to further divide and strip working people of rights that they very rightly deserve,” commented DiCarlantonio. “Unions are essential to building the inclusive middle class that our country needs. I and the Jefferson County Democratic Party will do everything in our power to make it easier, not harder, for working people to come together for good wages and benefits. We will not let any court case stand in the way of our fight for the food, union jobs that are communities so desperately need.”

This decision is yet another example of how billionaires and anti-worker politicians rig the system against working people, but SEIU members won’t let the extremists behind this case divide us,” said Becky Williams, president of SEIU District 1199, which represents more than 300 working families in Jefferson County. “We will stay united, help working women and men who are fighting to form Unions and call on our elected leaders to do everything in their power to make it easier for working people to join together in Unions.”

We are committed to supporting Union and not-yet-Union workers who want to join together for greater financial security for their families and stronger communities, like those who recently organized their Union at Cambridge Place, an assisted living and memory care facility in Cambridge, Ohio,” continued President Williams. “Today we are rising up to call on our elected leaders to stand beside us and make it easier to join together in a Union, not harder. No court case, no billionaire and no propaganda campaign can stop us.”
